Isamu Kenmochi (1912-1971) was a leading Japanese modernist designer known for pioneering post-World War II Japanese industrial design. He collaborated with Isamu Noguchi, blending traditional Japanese furniture and modernist styles. Kenmochi's lounge chair from 1958 is part of MoMA's collection and won the G-Mark Prize. Tragically, he took his own life on June 3, 1971, in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
