Guadalupe Quesada

Guadalupe Quesada (1988, MX) dreams of a far-away planet on which her sculptures are alive. In one of her fantasies, aliens come to visit her studio and are shocked to find exact replicas of their homeplace's flora and fauna. There is indeed an inter-galactic feel to Quesada's ceramics, but it is on our planet that she looks for inspiration : images of fungi, microbes, strange plants and under-sea creatures populate her atelier. Through a process of deconstruction and careful fragment selection, she assembles her own creatures and infuses them with a cheeky candy-flavoured sensibility. The result is a strange garden of fantastical entities, with pastel valves, cereal polyps, and bonbon coloured spores.
