Bernard Heesen

Bernard Heesen 2009 XXL one of a kind art glass sculpture. Hand blown glass art sculpture by the renown Dutch artist Bernard Heesen, 1958. During the creating process does he let coincidence contribute to the shape and expression of his work. He gets inspired by images in old encyclopaedias which he re-produces giving them his own touch. Musea world wide have added his Art to their collection. In the Netherlands his work is shown in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Frans Hals Museum, the Haags Gemeente Museum, the Glas Museum Leerdam, Museum Boymans van Beuningen and so on.

Despite being the son of a a famous glass designer for the Royal Leerdam glass factory, Heesen has not always been interested in glasswork. It was during his architecture studies that he became interested in working with glass.
As a performer of his work, he allows chance to contribute to the form and expression of his products during the creation process.
Finding inspiration in 19th Century encyclopedias, he gives the objects - jugs, arabesques, mugs, chalices, etc. - his own expressionistic, sometimes caricatural interpretation.
